Key Takeaways

  • RES Completes 57.5 MW Solar Project In US state of Georgia
  • The Tanglewood Solar project is the first construction partnership between Origis Energy and RES.
  • Project is one of the facilities under the Georgia Power Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI)

US developer and EPC Renewable Energy Systems (RES) announced completion of the GA Solar 3 – Tanglewood Solar project.  Developed and owned by Origis Energy, the 57.5 MW solar project is one of the facilities under the Georgia Power Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) serving the utility’s customers participating in the Commercial and Industrial REDI (C&I REDI) program.

The Tanglewood Solar project is the first construction partnership between Origis Energy and RES. The construction, which began in May 2019, employed over 250 workers, operators and electricians at its peak installation periods.

In recent years, Georgia Power solicitated bids for several tender under the Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) approved by  Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) in 2016. The state regulator  authorized the utility to procure 1,200 MW of renewables through multiple programs. End of 2018 it issued the final REDI tender looking to procure 540 MW of large-scale renewable energy generation (see Georgia Power Looking For 540 MW Large-Scale RE)

The utility  had it nearly 1 GW of solar capacity online by end of 2018, and with the REDI program it hopes to have up to 1.6 GW of additional renewable energy resources by the end of 2021.
