Bangladesh Solar PV Tender For 2×50 MW

Bangladesh Power Development Board Issues Re-Tender For 100 MW Solar Power Development Near Chuadanga & Netrokona Substations; August 7, 2019 Last Date To Submit Bids
08:14 PM (Beijing Time) - 10. July 2019

In July 2018, BPDB issued a tender for 4 projects of 50 MW each to be developed near the substations of Netrakona, Mymensingh, Chuadanga and Chittagong. Now it is seeking bids for 2x50 MW for solar power plants near the substations of Netrakona, and Chuadanga.

Key Takeaways

  • Bangladesh Power Development Board is looking to project sponsors and developers for 2 solar power projects of 50 MW each
  • These projects will be developed near Chuadanga and Netrokona substations
  • Winners will be required to develop the projects on BOO basis while also arranging finance for the same
  • It says this is a re-tender and has set August 7, 2019 as the last date to submit bids

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has issued a notice inviting bids for 2 solar power projects with 50 MW capacity each. It will be developed on a build, own & operate (BOO) basis at 2 sites near 132/33 kV substations in Chuadanga and Netrokona.

The agency is seeking bids from project sponsors to develop these grid tied projects that need to be in operation for 20 years. To participate in the tender proceedings, interested companies need to submit technical, commercial and financial proposals. Financing for the 100 MW capacity needs to be arranged by the winners.

Without stating any specific reason, the notice mentions it is a re-tender. It seems to be a re-tender from 200 MW capacity BPDB tendered in July 2018 in the form of 4 projects of 50 MW each which had to be developed near the grid stations of Netrakona, Mymensingh, Chuadanga and Chittagong (see Bangladesh Issues 200 MW PV Tender).

Interested project developers have time till August 7, 2019 to submit their bids to BPDB. Further details are available on BPDB’s website.

In March 2019, Saudi Arabia’s Alfanar entered into a joint venture partnership with the Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh to develop 2 projects of 50 MW each at Sonagazi in Feni district (see Saudi Support For 100 MW Solar In Bangladesh).
