Enel Green Power Breaks Ground On 220 MW Magdalena II Solar Power Plant, Its First In Mexican State Of Tlaxcala; Commercial Operations Due By 2019-End

Enel Green Power has begun installing bifacial solar PV panels for its 220 MW Magdalena II solar power plant in Mexico’s Tlaxcala state. This, says the Italian company, is its first plant to be equipped with bifacial solar panels and the first in the Mexican state.
The 220 MW project will use 550,000 bifacial solar panels. Back in November 2018 when the company broke ground on the project, it did not specify what modules it plans to use (see Enel Starts Construction On 220 MW Mexican Project).
It is mounting the panels on single axis trackers, the company said. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 when it will generate around 600 GWh annually. The $165 million project will supply all of its power for industrial consumers of the Wholesale Market of Electrical Energy of Mexico (MEM).
“The free market in Mexico has great growth potential and we’ll continue to grow through bilateral agreements with companies in the private sector,” said EGP Area Manager in Mexico and Central America, Paolo Romanacci.
