China’s JinkoSolar Holding Co., is moving fast on its expansion plans having commenced production for 4.8 GW annual capacity at its Yiwu, Zhejiang located plant which on completion is targeted to have a total of 16 GW capacity. The official announcement of phase I production starting was made by the Yiwu High Tech Zone where the plant is located.

Interestingly, JinkoSolar’s cumulative module production capacity till the end of 2019 was 16 GW.

The Chinese company expects this fab to take an investment of RMB 11 billion ($1.54 billion) to realize the 16 GW fab. Trial production under phase I with 4.8 GW started on May 18, 2020. Phase II is planned to begin in August 2020 and production to start in February 2022.

By the end of 2020, the world’s largest module producer wants to have a module capacity of 25 GW with all of it comprising high-efficiency mono wafer products. The management has guided for annual shipments this year to reach between 18 GW to 20 GW.

In December 2019, JinkoSolar said it was targeting up to 10 GW annual capacity for its 460 W Tiger PV panels. Last month the company launched its Tiger Pro solar modules boasting up to 580 W output with 9BB and TR technology.
