Chinese PV Backsheet Manufacturer Jolywood Wins Bid To Supply 64.6 MW High-Efficiency Bifacial Solar Modules To Haixing New Energy

A day after bifacial solar made global news with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) exempting the technology produced overseas from safeguard duty tariffs, here comes another big one. Chinese module manufacturer Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology Co. Ltd. has signed one of the world’s largest announced bifacial solar module supply deals to date. It will provide 320 MW of this technology to Shanghai Electric to power Dubai Expo in 2020.
Jolywood will deliver the shipment in 2 stages, during H2/2020 and beginning of 2022. It also happens to be the Chinese company’s largest overseas N-type bifacial power plant project. In September 2018, Jolywood won a bid from Haixing New Energy, a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), to supply 64.6 MW high-efficiency bifacial solar modules with 310 W power ratings (see Jolywood Secures 64.6 MW Bifacial Module Order).
“Its unique N-type high-efficiency technology equips the modules with lower degradation and better temperature coefficient making them suitable for use in the Middle East while providing a more stable, clean and sustainable electric power,” said Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Electric Power Generation Engineering Company, Xiaobin Cao.
Dubai Expo 2020 is starting on October 20, 2020 with a focus on sustainability, mobility, opportunity. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is developing a pilot project of solar driven hydrogen electrolysis facility for the event, along with Siemens (see Construction Starts On Hydrogen Facility In Dubai).
Jolywood is a unique player in the solar field – it is a pioneer in producing bifacial cells and next gen N-type TOPcon cells and is one of the world’s largest backsheet manufacturers (see TaiyangNews Market Survey Backsheets & Encapsulation 2019). In April 2019, Jolywood along with Imec announced 23.2% front-side conversion efficiency for N-PERT solar cells with over 80% bifacialty (see 23.2% Efficiency For Bifacial N-PERT Solar Cells).
