Key Takeaways

  • NTPC has re-tendered two projects of 8 MW and 17 MW capacity for South Andaman in Andaman & Nicobar Island
  • To be located at Chidiyatapu in South Andaman, the 8 MW PV project is planned to come with 3.2 MW/3.2 MWh battery energy storage systems
  • The 17 MW project will be stationed at Manglutan with 6.8 MW/6.8 MWh battery storage, increasing from last time
  • Another battery storage tender for 2 MW/2MWh has also been issued for an existing PV plant of 5 MW capacity in Port Blair

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has re-tendered a total capacity of 25 MW accompanied by battery energy storage systems (BESS) for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This capacity is divided between two projects of 8 MW and 17 MW.

The tendered 8 MW PV plant will be located at Chidiyatapu in South Andaman with 3.2 MW/3.2 MWh BESS, just like the previous tender (see Another NTPC Storage Tender For Andaman).

A second tender with 17 MW PV capacity will be stationed at Manglutan, also in South Andaman. The BESS power/capacity for this one has been increased to 6.8 MW/6.8 MWh, as against the previous specification of 6 MW (see Battery Storage Tender From NTPC).

Interested developers for the 8 MW tender can buy bidding documents till April 23, 2018 – submission deadline is  May 17, 2018. For the 17 MW tender, bidding documents will be available till April 20, 2018. The submission deadline is May 15, 2018.

Successful bidders need to carry out design, engineering, supply, packing and forwarding, transportation, unloading, storage, installation, testing, commissioning and grid integration of the projects on turnkey basis. Comprehensive operation and maintenance for both the projects has to be provided by the winner for 10-year duration each.

NTPC has also issued a separate BESS tender with 2 MW/ 2 MWh for an existing 5 MW solar power plant in Garacharma, Port Blair on Andaman & Nicobar Island. Last date to submit bids for this one is May 4, 2018.
