Consulting and engineering services provider Pöyry has bagged a contract for a 29 MW solar power project in the Kedah region of Malaysia. The Malaysian office of the company has already completed conceptual design and technical specifications, and assisted in selecting an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider and in EPC contract negotiations for the project.
The company has not disclosed the value of the project, simply saying that the order has been recognized within the Energy Business Group order stock in H2/2017. It will support the project by providing assistance in project management, design review and site supervision services.
Pöyry was given the contract by PV project developer Leader Solar Energy Sdn Bhd, part of Leader Energy Ltd. On its website, Leader Energy has stated that it secured a 21-year concession to a build-own-operate 29 MW solar PV project in Sungai Petani, Kedah, in December 2016. It expects the commercial operation of the project to start in mid-2018. Pöyry plans to complete its part of the project within 8 months.
“The new Leader Energy solar PV plant will be one of the first large-scale ground-mounted solar PV projects in Malaysia and is a good showcase for our continuing commitment to the Malaysian power market,” commented Petteri Härkki, regional director of Pöyry, adding, “We are very pleased to be involved in this interesting project and continue our good cooperation with Leader Energy.”
