Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) has come out with a request for proposals (RFP) for 2 solar PV projects under category A, round 2 of the country’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reports that RFPs for 6 solar power projects under category B were issued on July 18 representing a capacity of 1.4 GW (see Saudi Arabia To Seek Proposals For 1.47 GW RE).
The 2 projects under category A are 50 MW Medina and 20 MW Rafha solar projects.
RFPs have been issued to 60 companies that were selected in the pre-qualification round, including 28 from Saudi Arabia (see 60 Developers Shortlisted For 1.5 GW Saudi Tender). The qualifying companies haven’t been identified but SPA reported the new category will encourage greater local and international partnerships during the forming of bidding consortiums.
Companies under category A, which refers to smaller projects, are required to include at least 1 managing member in the consortium. All projects under round 2 must adhere to using 17% local content to boost local industries. Winners will sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with a validity of 20 to 25 years.
Complete proposals for category B projects must be submitted by November 18, 2019, and the last date for submission for category A projects is December 3, 2019. REPDO will live-stream the results of all bids on its eProcurement portal www.powersaudiarabia.com.
The 1.47 GW capacity tendered by REPDO is the first half of REPDO’s 2019 project development pipeline under round 2, said SPA as the agency is gearing up to tender another 6 projects by Q4/2019 under round 3 of the NREP.
