Global solar PV inverter supplier Sungrow has struck a big deal in the growing Indian market with a 650 MW supply contract with Avaada Energy, an independent power producer (IPP). The Indian company will deploy the devices of the Chinese inverter company for its upcoming PV projects in 2020. It it targets a total of 11 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2025; so far it has commissioned 2 GW.

Under the deal, Sungrow will supply its 1500V 3.125 MW central inverter solution to be used for flat ground mounted solar power plants. With the high DC/AC ratio of over 1.4 and the flexible 6.25 MW or 12.5 MW block design, the solution is claimed to help minimize the system cost and be widely utilized in India. Delivery schedule and financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Chinese company claims to have more than 10 GW of 1500V inverter solutions installed globally. In 2018, it opened its first international factory in India’s Bengaluru with an annual capacity of 3 GW (see Sungrow Opens India Inverter Factory).

Avaada Energy raised INR 10 billion in equity financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), FMO and DEG in April 2019 to fund its 2.4 GW renewable energy portfolio (see Avaada Raises INR 10bn As Equity).
