India’s Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL) has switched on two solar power projects with a total capacity of 100 MW in Andhra Pradesh. Both the projects of 50 MW capacity each are located in Ananthapuramu Solar Park in the southern Indian state.
It had signed power supply contract with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in 2016 for a period of 25 years (see TPREL Signs 100 MW PPA With SECI). The plant is part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II, Batch-III of the Government of India. TPREL is a 100% subsidiary of Tata Power.
“Tata Power is focused to constantly proliferate the group’s renewable energy portfolio and we plan to add around 1000 MW renewable energy capacity to our portfolio every year, scaling it to 45-50% in the next five years, largely through organic growth,” said Praveer Sinha, CEO & managing director, Tata Power.
With this plant, TPREL’s operating renewable energy capacity now stands at 2,215 MW in India, comprising 1,284 MW of solar power capacity.
During FY 2017, it reported organic growth of 159 MW of solar and wind power capacity, along with the acquisition of Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt. Ltd. (see Tata Acquires Welspun Renewables).
