- X-Elio has secured power purchase agreements with Galp to provide it solar power for 12 years
- The PPAs will come into effect from June 2020 when Galp will source 358 GWh of clean power annually
- This solar power will come from 200 MW of solar power projects X-Elio is developing in Spain currently
Portuguese natural gas distribution company Galp has entered into several power purchase agreements (PPA) with Spanish solar PV project developer X-Elio for power generated from 200 MW of PV projects in Spain. Over the 12-year duration of the PPA, X-Elio will supply 358 GWh of annual solar power capacity to Galp.
All the projects are currently under development and the energy generated will be progressively allocated to Galp’s commercial activities from June 2020 onwards, shared Galp.
“This framework agreement fits Galp’s strategy, as a leading Iberian integrated energy company, to secure a balanced and competitive long-term sourcing for its power activities, while offering its customers access to efficient and environmentally sustainable energy solutions,” stated Galp in a short statement.
The PPA-based solar market in Spain is currently very hot. In August 2019, Statkraft of Norway signed a 12-year PPA with BayWa of Germany to procure power from a 50 MW solar plant in Spain (see 12-Year PPA For 50 MW Spanish Solar Project Of BayWa).
