• Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park is expected to come online with all its capacity of 1,000 MW by the end of May 2017

Andhra Pradesh located Kurnool Solar Park with 1 GW capacity is expected to become fully operational by the end of May 2017. 900 MW capacity has been already commissioned, the remaining 100 MW is left to be connected to the grid, as per news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

Clean energy consultancy Mercom Capital Group had earlier reported that the entire 1,000 MW capacity is to come online by April 2017.

Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park is being developed by Andhra Pradesh Solar Power Corporation Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited and New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP).

NTPC had awarded capacities to various developers for this park through competitive bidding. Greenko is developing 500 MW, SoftBank JV in India SBG Cleantech commissioned its share of 350 MW in April 2017 (see SoftBank’s Indian JV Commissions 350 MW). Azure was in charge of bringing 100 MW online. Another 50 MW was won by Adani.  

During a field visit, Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary For Energy and Infrastructure Ajay Jain highlighted to reporters that the state is operating the largest solar power capacity in the country with 1,867.23 MW. It is followed by Rajasthan with 1,812 MW, Telangana with 1,287 MW and Gujarat with 1,250 MW.

In September 2016, Adani commissioned a 684 MW solar power project, one of the largest in the world located in a single location. The Kurnool project is located in Gani and Sakunala villages in Andhra Pradesh with a total land area of 5,932 acres.
