  • Brockwell has initiated a statutory consultation process for its proposed solar and storage project in the UK

  • The East Park Energy Project is projected to host 400 MW solar PV and 100 MW BESS capacity

  • The company has proposed an alternative location for the BESS after it received an objection to the original site

Formerly known as RNA Energy, UK-based solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects developer Brockwell Storage and Solar has launched a public consultation for its East Park Energy Project with 400 MW solar PV to be accompanied by a 100 MW storage capacity.

The ground-mounted facility is proposed to be located northwest of St Neots and grid-connected with the National Grid’s Eaton Socon substation. The company promises to enhance and maintain the natural environment, including the delivery of at least a 10% biodiversity net gain.

It received more than 370 responses to a previous consultation for the project, which included concerns about the loss of agricultural land and the impact on food security.

Brockwell has now put together the feedback and the results of the ongoing technical assessments for this statutory consultation released. This includes removing solar development from various locations where archaeological surveys have identified the probable site of a previously unknown Roman Small Town, and relocating it elsewhere.

After opposition to the location of the BESS, it has proposed an alternative site nearby that can host the storage as well as an internal substation.

Project construction is expected to take 20 to 36 months, and the developer is seeking administrative consent to operate the project for 40 years. Decommissioning works will take another 12 to 24 months.

The statutory consultation was launched on September 24, 2024. Feedback on the project can be submitted till October 29, 2024.

Brockwell acquired RNA Energy in March 2024 and now aims to develop a pipeline of solar and battery storage projects that contribute to the company’s goal of developing 5 GW of installed renewable energy generation capacity by 2030.
