- Netivei Israel has launched a solar power tender for 20 MW cumulative capacity
- It needs to be developed at 3 highway interchanges of Gedera, Beit Kama and Atlit
- Winning companies will get a concession to build and operate the PV installation
Netivei Israel, the national transport infrastructure company of Israel, has launched a tender for 20 MW of solar power capacity to be built at 3 highway interchanges in the country.
According to local financial newspaper Globes, the solar installations need to come up at the 3 interchanges of Gedera, Beit Kama and Atlit. Winners will get a concession to build and operate the PV installations. Globes called it a 1st tender of its kind in Israel.
Speaking to the newspaper, Netivei CEO said Nisim Peretz said its entry into the space of solar will help the country utilize its public resources while contributing to national targets for renewable energy which is to have 30% renewable energy share in the total energy mix by 2030 (see Israel Approves 30% Renewable Energy Target For 2030). Netivei manages 985 of the country’s inter-city highways and holds a potential of 5,000 acres where solar arrays can be installed.
It will help the agency become energy self-sufficient, reduce its electricity costs while also adding clean energy to the grid.
The report further added that the tender follows a cabinet decision to relax procedures for the production of solar energy using varied locations as bridges, interchanges, fish ponds and the like.
In June 2021, EDF Renewables switched on the country’s 1st large scale bifacial solar power plant with 60 MW capacity near Timna Copper Mine (see 60 MW Bifacial Solar Power Project Online In Israel).
