  • Acciona has bagged a power purchase agreement contract renewal in Portugal
  • Fnac Portugal has contracted Acciona to supply 13,000 MWh of certified renewable electricity annually
  • The contract is valid for 2 years and will enable Fnac Portugal to avoid 3,800 tons of CO2 annually

Spanish energy company Acciona has earned a renewal of its power offtake contract for 13,000 MWh of renewable capacity in Portugal from the Portuguese subsidiary of French technology and culture retail group Fnac Portugal. It will serve Fnac’s 46 stores in Portugal.

Previously, Acciona and Fnac Portugal entered a contract in 2019 to supply latter with green energy generation and supply solutions. It enabled the company to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 3,800 tons.

Acciona explains that the renewed contract is valid for 2 years for the period 2021 and 2022, and will see it supplying close to 13,000 MWh of renewable energy to Fnac Portugal per year, certified with 100% Renewable Guarantees of Origin by the EEGO platform of Portugal’s electricity group Rede Electrica Nacional (REN). It combines both ‘competitive conditions’ as well as ensures continuity in Fnac Portugal’s energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts.

Through the renewed contract, Fnac Portugal expects to avoid 3,800 tons of CO2 every year.

Acciona’s renewable energy portfolio in Portugal comprises 166 MW of solar and wind energy assets, including 46 MW Amareleja Solar Power Plant.

Before Fnac Portugal, Acciona secured an energy supply contract with private company Vidrala in Portugal in 2018 (see Acciona Secures RE PPA In Portugal).
