International solar developer ib vogt issued an announcement that it has sold a 206 MW solar PV project to Helen, a Finland based energy company. Located in Kalanti, Uusikaupunki, in South-West Finland, the project is ready to be built and is expected to consist of over 380,000 high-capacity bifacial solar modules built on a fixed-tilt substructure for optimal performance.

Once the farm reaches commercial operation in 2024, it is expected to produce over 200 GWh of clean energy per year. This would be equivalent to the electricity consumed on an average by 28,800 households annually, and will save about 17,600 tons of CO2 every year. ib vogt will be providing complete EPC, O&M and Asset Management services towards the farm and the construction will begin in the second quarter 2023.

Since 2020, ib vogt has been active in Finland and this farm marks an important milestone as its first plant to be built in a Nordic country.

Speaking about the deal, CEO of ib vogt Anton Milner said, “We are delighted to work with Helen to advance their environmental objectives and support the efforts in diversifying power production for their customers. Many thanks to the people at Helen and all involved parties, who put a tremendous amount of effort into bringing this acquisition over the finish line with a very ambitious timeline to advance the transition toward clean energy production.”

Commenting on this, Helen M&A Director Jenny Söderman said, “Solar power production in Finland will grow exponentially in the future. The solar power plant located in Kalanti, Uusikaupunki, is our first acquisition of a ready-to-build solar project and one of the largest in Finland. The industrial-scale solar power plant is an addition to our production of domestic, emission-free energy, while also increasing our energy self-sufficiency. Increasing the amount of electricity produced by solar power also supports our goal to be carbon neutral by 2030 and the transition towards a decentralised energy system, where energy is produced from different sources.”

In November 2022, ib vogt had announced that the start of the construction of its 149 MW Garnacha solar power plant in Zamora, Spain (see Construction Begins For ib Vogt Spain Solar Plant)

Meanwhile in another development, ib vogt has recently signed the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative – United Nations Global Compact.

Anton Milner said, “We are proud to join the United Nations Global Compact, as it continues our focus on greater sustainability measures and reaffirms our commitment towards the environment and the communities we serve. Our daily business at ib vogt is fundamental to the energy transition and the greatest positive impact that we can have on the world is to do more and do it faster. By becoming part of this renowned initiative, it drives us to further expand our sustainability goals and continue implementing practices that align with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.”

Joining the UN Global Compact,  ib vogt said this will enhance its on-going environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy and approaches, which include working towards carbon neutrality by systematically:

  • eliminating its carbon footprint,
  • promoting a sustainable supply chain,
  • fostering corporate social responsibility projects, increasing diversity and
  • well-being throughout its workforce.

As a signatory of the UN Global Compact, ib vogt said it will report its yearly progress in implementing the Ten Principles and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. ib vogt’s annual Sustainability Report will feature information around the company’s efforts impacting the SDGs and its ongoing progress.

The UN Global Compact was established in 2000. Since then, signatories have been pledging to align their operations and strategies with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. Pertaining to human rights, labor, environmental practices, and anti-corruption measures, the Ten Principles also encourage companies to take actions towards UN Sustainable Development Goals.
