- Trina Solar has launched Trina Storage to enter the new business domain on a global scale
- It will offer containerized solution comprising lithium iron phosphate batteries and power conversion system
- Software and services like monitoring and support will also be provided by the company
Chinese solar PV cell and module manufacturer Trina Solar Co., Ltd. has announced its foray into the energy storage market with the launch of its global business unit Trina Storage. This news follows its 100% acquisition of Spanish solar PV tracker company Nclave Renewable S.L. in September 2020.
It will provide tier 1 components for hardware, software and services for utilities, independent power producers (IPP), developers and EPCs in the form of containerized solutions with lithium iron phosphate batteries and power conversion system (PCS). Monitoring and support services will be provided.
Trina Solar said these solutions will be offered for various applications as solar + storage, standalone as well as large industrial and microgrid, while using the company’s established supply chain.
“We will see exponential growth in the renewable energy industry in the next years as energy needs increase. Storage is the only solution that can support this transition effectively. Therefore, customers need a trusted storage supplier with a profound knowledge of the energy industry,” said Trina Solar’s Head of Overseas Storage Business, Terry Chen. “Our solutions are ideal for different application scenarios such as solar and storage or standalone battery systems to enhance grid stability.”
Calling energy storage the missing piece of the energy transition puzzle, the company referred to market reports to state that the global utility and C&I energy storage markets will attract over $560 billion in investment by 2040.
Trina is on its way of becoming the world’s largest module manufacturer. It plans to reach 50 GW module production capacity by end of 2021. One of the main companies behind the move to 210 mm large wafer based modules, it recently signed a 4 GW supply contract for this product with US utility NextEra Energy, Inc.(see 4 GW Order For Trina Solar’s 210mm Solar Modules).
