327 MW PV Installed In Germany In August 2019

With a few months still to go for 2019 to end, German solar PV additions in the first eight months have already crossed 2.72 GW, exceeding the 2.5 GW annual target. By end of September, it might have already exceeded its 2018 installations of 3 GW, and get close to 4 GW by year end.

  • Bundesnetzagentur of Germany has published the latest PV deployment numbers for the month of August 2019 when 327 MW of new capacity was installed
  • This comprises 235 MW of rooftop solar and another 18.58 MW of ground mounted solar power plants
  • Within the first eight months of 2019 total additions have already crossed 2.72 GW, exceeding the annual target of 2.5 GW
  • Cumulative capacity of the country till August 2019 has been reported at 48.65 GW

The German solar PV market saw new capacity additions of 327.20 MW in the month of August 2019, according to the latest statistics published by the country's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). It is a little less than the 354 MW installed by the market a year back in August 2018 (see Germany Installed Over 354 MW PV In Aug 2018). But more than what was installed in July 2019, when 310.7 MW of new capacity was added, which is an increased number adjusted from the previously announced 291.735 MW (see Germany Installed 292 MW PV In July 2019).

The August 2019 additions comprise 235 MW of rooftop solar capacity and 18.58 MW of ground mounted solar plants.

However, what's remarkable is that within the first eight months of 2019 total additions have already crossed 2.72 GW, exceeding the annual target of 2.5 GW. With another few months to go before the year comes to an end, 2019 is expected to be the year when Germany will add more than 3 GW of cumulative additions, exceeding last year's number (see Germany Installed Close To 3 GW Solar In 2018).

Overall, the cumulative installed solar PV capacity of Germany at the end of August 2019 reached 48.65 GW, just a few GWs shy of the 52 GW target, but now under the country's new Climate Change Act approved by the government, the 52 GW cap has been removed but no other details have been announced.
