4 GW solar power capacity in Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced its plans to develop 4 GW solar power capacity in the state to meet growing energy demand. Informing the State Assembly Tamil Nadu's Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji said TANGEDCO is also planning to set up solar power parks with battery storage in all districts of the state. It will start with a pilot project in Virudhunagar district with 1 MW solar and 3 MW battery storage system, according to a report by the IANS.
SECI tender for land for solar in UP: The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has launched an expression of interest (EOI) to source land to set up solar PV projects in Uttar Pradesh (UP) for solarization of agri-feeders. Launched on behalf of the UP state government, SECI plans to take land on lease or purchase it for solar power developers from private land owners, land aggregators, registered farmer producer organizations, entrepreneurs, among others. It should be a minimum of 4 acres of contiguous land in a single locationIf on lease, it will be for 30 years from the date of signing lease agreement. ReNew Power commissions 250 MW PV: ReNew Power has commissioned SECI-3 interstate transmission system (ISTS) connected solar power project with 250 MW capacity in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer. It plans to commission remaining 50 MW capacity out of 300 MW it won under tranche-III of a competitive auction conducted by SECI, by the end of September 2021. Power generated will be sold to the state of Bihar by SECI for INR 2.55 per kWh for 25 years (see INR 2.55/kWh Lowest Bid For SECI 1.2 GW Tender).
IREDA's 5 GW tender oversubscribed: A 5 GW Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Phase-II solar tender launched by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) in January 2021 has been oversubscribed with an additional 1.96 GW capacity bid for. According to Mercom India Research, the bidders include NTPC, SECI, NHPC, SJVN, NLC India, IRCON International and Indian Oil.
