• Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy has said it’s a-4 New Energy Auction to be held on June 27, 2019 will have only renewable energy sources competing
  • Solar PV will be one of the technologies participating in this auction, along with wind, thermal and hydroelectric projects
  • Solar projects that were authorized for last year’s A-4 auction will also be eligible to compete in this 2019 auction

In an update to the A-4 and A-6 New Energy Auctions Schedule announced recently, the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has specified which technologies will be allowed to participate in these auctions. In a notification published in the country’s official journal, the ministry says solar PV, hydroelectric, wind, and biomass will compete in the A-4 auction of 2019, to be held on June 27.

PV projects that were cleared to be part of the New Energy Auction A-4 in 2018 will also be accepted in this year’s A-4 auction round. Even those wind, thermal and hydroelectric projects that were authorized to participate in the A-6 auction in 2018, which didn’t have solar as a category, will also be entertained in A-6 auction.

Brazil plans to hold energy auctions A-4 and A-6 once a year each year during 2019 and 2021 (see Brazil Schedules A-4 Auction For June 2019).
