US based renewable energy company SunPower Corporation has appointed Eduardo Medina as its Executive Vice President of power plants. He will lead the company’s business development efforts for the global power plants business segment. Medina has previously worked as Executive Managing Director and Head of Business Development for Spanish renewables firm Acciona Energia. At the latter, he also worked as its Asia Director and Director of Middle East North Africa and the Mediterranean region. He also held leadership roles at General Electric in the Power Generation unit and Spanish wind company Gamesa Eolica, SA.
Medina has over 25 years of experience in the global energy scene. Announcing the decision on January 4, 2016, SunPower President and CEO Tom Werner, said, “We saw a number of events – the Clean Power Plan, COP21 agreement and the Investment Tax Credit extension – that will all act as a catalyst for our business. Having Eduardo join our team is perfectly timed to take advantage of these opportunities going forward.”
Medina will be based out of SunPower’s office in Lyon, France. In this city, SunPower’s major shareholder Total Energie operates its solar business as well.
