• ISFH CalTec has independently confirmed Trina Solar’s 23.22% power conversion efficiency record
  • Trina achieved this level for its high efficiency large-area  n-type c-Si I-TOPCon solar cell on a quasi-mono wafer
  • It fabricated the bifacial cell with a low-cost industrial process of its advanced I-TOPCon technology on a large-sized phosphorus-doped cast-mono Si substrate

The State Key Laboratory of PV Science and Technology (PVST) of Trina Solar in China has set a new ‘world record’ of 23.22% power conversion efficiency for a high-efficiency large-area quasi-monocrystalline n-type (c-Si) I-TOPCon (also called passivated contact technology) solar cell. German testing institute ISFH CalTec has independently confirmed this, says Trina Solar.

The Chinese solar PV products manufacturer said that it achieved the efficiency level after fabricating a n-type bifacial I-TOPCon solar cell with a low-cost industrial process of advanced I-TOPCon (Industrial Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technologies on a large-sized phosphorus-doped cast-mono Si substrate.

Using these parameters enable the Trina researchers to push the total-area front side efficiency to 23.22% for its 247.79 cm²bifacial solar cell.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the new world record for a total-area efficiency for a large-area cast-mono silicon solar cell,” added Dr Zhiqiang Feng, Director of Trina Solar’s State Key Laboratory (SKL) of PV Science and Technology.

In May 2019, ISFH CalTec confirmed 24.58% conversion efficiency for Trina Solar’s high efficiency n-type c-Si I-TOPCon front side mono-based solar cell. (see Trina & Canadian Solar Report Cell Efficiency Records).
