• JinkoSolar has reported 24.79% efficiency for its large-area n-type monocrystalline silicon solar cell
  • It achieved the results by fabricating the cell on a high-quality CZ mono-Si substrate with a practical size of 267.72 cm²
  • The company claims it to be a world record for large-size contact-passivated solar cells, and aims to put it in production gradually

For its large-area N-type monocrystalline silicon solar cells, the world’s largest PV module supplier JinkoSolar Holding has reported achieving a maximum solar conversion efficiency of 24.79%, which it says is a new ‘world record’ for large-size contact-passivated solar cells.

The German Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH) has independently confirmed the result, the Chinese vertically-integrated solar module manufacturer said. It will now gradually apply this passivated contacts (often also called TOPCon technology) silicon solar cell in its product production.

JinkoSolar achieved the conversion efficiency after fabricating its monocrystalline silicon solar cell on a high-quality CZ mono-Si substrate with a practical size of 267.72 cm², but doesn’t share too many specific details. The ‘several advanced technologies’ that made this feat possible include passivating contacts, an advanced diffusion system, surface passivation and advanced anti-reflection technologies.

The company also integrated a ‘series of material upgrades’ into the cell process to achieve the results.

“We are very proud to break the world record with advanced large-area N-type cell in the world, and this innovative cell technology also holds the world record for PV module efficiency,” said JinkoSolar’s CTO, Dr. Jin Hao. “We will constantly invest in upgrading technologies to achieve mass production, and to lead the way by providing high efficiency and competitive industrial products for our global customers.”

In January 2019, JinkoSolar reported 24.2% efficiency for N-type TOPCon monocrystalline silicon solar cells using its HOT cell design.

JinkoSolar will talk about its high power Tiger Pro Solar modules with 580 W output it launched in May 2020 and other technological advancements in a presentation and an Executive Panel at TaiyangNews’ virtual 500 W+ Solar Module Conference on July 29 & July 30, 2020. Registration is for free here.
