- Juwi Shizen Energy has announced commissioning of 100 MW DC/80 MW AC solar project in Japan
- The Azuma Kofuji Solar Park in Fukushima Prefecture is designed to generate 107 million kWh annually
- It was hired by Canadian Solar to build the project on abandoned farmland
A joint venture between Japanese wind and solar parks developer Shizen Energy and German projects developer Juwi, Juwi Shizen Energy has brought online its largest solar energy project with 100 MW DC/80 MW AC capacity in Japan’s Fukushima city for Canadian Solar.
In 2021, Canadian Solar hired Juwi Shizen to build the project calling it the company’s largest project in Japan till then for which it was to use self-produced HiKu solar modules (see Canadian Solar Constructing 143 MW Solar In Japan).
The solar project is spread in several sub-areas covering close to 186 hectares, most of which covers farmland not in use anymore. According to the company, Japanese government encourages the use of such abandoned former agricultural land for renewable energy projects.
Located about 80 kilometers away from Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor, Azuma Kofuji Solar Park started feeding electricity into the grid at the end of September 2022. It is expected to produce around 107 million kWh annually for the local grid.
Juwi Shizen counts its total installed project volume since 2013 to 602 MW DC with this project coming online. The JV is currently constructing another 140 MW solar in the country.
