  • Domeyko Solar Power Plant with 204 MW capacity in Chile is ready to start commercial operations
  • Enel Chile has secured clearance from the National Electricity Coordinator for the same
  • It is equipped with bifacial monocrystalline solar modules that are expected to generate around 590 GWh annually

Chile’s Antofagasta region is to see commercial operations of 204 MW Domeyko Solar PV Plant after Enel Chile was authorized by Chile’s National Electricity Coordinator to officially bring the project online.

Enel Chile says the solar power station located in Atacama desert is already delivering clean energy to the National Electric System.

Equipped with 472,590 bifacial monocrystalline solar PV modules, the 204 MW project is designed to generate around 590 GWh annually and supply the same to around 251,000 Chilean homes. The project is located on close to 606 hectares of land.

Built for an investment of around $164 million, the project was under construction since October 2020 and scheduled to complete by July 2021.

In late-2022, local electricity utility Colbun energized a 230 MW solar power plant in Atacama with 8 MW/32 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) calling it the largest PV project to come online in the region (see Chile’s Atacama Gets Its ‘Largest’ Operational Solar Plant).
