3.44 GW PV Selected For Dutch SDE+ Spring 2020 Round

• RVO Netherlands has selected 7,012 projects for under SDE+Spring 2020, the last round of SDE+ scheme
• Solar PV secured 3.44 GW win out of 3.911 GW selected and grabbed 65% of available budget under the round
• SDE++ scheme has now been officially announced with 1^st round under it accepting interested projects from November 24, 2020 to December 17, 2020

Under the SDE+Spring 2020 round of its Sustainable Energy Production Incentive Scheme –  Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie (SDE) -, the Government of Netherlands has selected 6,882 solar PV projects representing 3.44 GW capacity, allocating the technology the largest share of the originally €4 billion ($4.7 billion) reserved for this round.

In total, the Dutch Enterprise Agency – Rijkdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) – received 7,562 applications for the SDE+Spring 2020 round and allocated over €3.3 billion ($4 billion) to 7,012 selected projects accounting for 3.911 GW capacity.

Solar PV secured €2.148 billion ($2.5 billion) or 65% of the available budget. The other selected technologies that participated in this round were biomass gas, geothermal, biomass heat and CHP, wind energy, solar thermal, and hydropower projects. It included projects that despite winning the subsidy under SDE+Spring 2019 round couldn't get placed on the grid.

This was the last round under the SDE+ scheme, now making way for the SDE++ scheme. The new scheme opens on November 24, 2020 and ends on December 17, 2020 for which a budget of €5 billion ($5.87 billion) has been set aside. Selected projects can expect to receive subsidies for a period of 12 years to 15 years, depending on the technology they use. Details can be viewed on the RVO's website.

In a letter dated September 14, 2020 to the House of Representatives, the country's Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate, Eric Wiebes said under SDE++, the government will encourage participation of all such renewable energy technologies that contribute to the reduction of CO2 to accelerate the country's pace towards realizing the 2030 national target of 49% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to 1990 levels.
