  • A 475 MW solar power complex has starts commercial operations in Brazil
  • It is the 2nd largest solar power plant in the country, according to Essentia Energia
  • The company commissioned it for BRL 1.4 billion investment with $901 million financing from BNDES

Essentia Energia has announced beginning of operations of its 475 MW Sol do Sertao Solar PV Complex in Brazil calling it the country’s 2nd largest such facility. The company claims it is also the 3rd largest solar power plant in Latin America.

It has one more ‘largest’ tag to it as the developer shared it was the ‘largest’ project finance structured by Brazilian development bank BNDES for a solar project with BRL 910 million out of BRL 1.4 billion total cost of bringing the facility to fruition.

Sol do Sertao Solar PV Complex in Oliveira dos Brejinhos region of Bahia state is equipped with 9,000 STI Norland trackers, 122 inverters and more than 1 million Hi-MO 4 bifacial solar panels provided by China’s LONGi Solar (see Latin America PV Snippets: Trina Solar, LONGi Solar, EDF).

A wind and solar energy developer, Essentia Energia is the renewable energy arm of global alternative asset manager Patria Investments.

“This is a large-scale project that was started and finished during the pandemic, proving the company’s execution capacity,” said Essentia Energia CEO Leonardo Serpa. “We are also developing a robust pipeline of wind and solar projects, reinforcing our objective to increase our presence in the renewable generation sector.”
