  • Niger has launched a solar tender for approximately 50 MW AC capacity under Scaling Solar program
  • It will be located in Gorou Banda plateau to be developed as an IPP by selected bidder
  • Interested companies pre-qualifying for this round will be able to move to RFP round

Niger’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy has launched its maiden Scaling Solar tender for approximately 50 MW AC capacity, around 2 months after it joined the initiative (see Niger Enters World Bank’s Scaling Solar Club).

According to the request for qualification (RFQ) documents released, the project will be located on Gorou Banda plateau, on the outskirts of the country’s capital Niamey. Interested bidders with experience, expertise and financial resources once selected, will be required to design, finance, construct and operate the grid connected PV project as an independent power producer (IPP).

Last date to submit requisite RFQ documents is November 22, 2021.

Details of the tender announcement are available in French language. Pre-qualified contenders will move to the request for proposals round (RFP).

More than a year back, the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) and the European Union (EU) announced their support for a 20 MW PV project in Gorou Banda, near 80 MW Gorou Banda Thermal Power Plant, with an aim to support the African nation’s efforts to diversify its electricity generation mix and reduce dependence on energy imports.

Recently, Uzbekistan launched up to 500 MW PV capacity tender under the World Bank’s Scaling Solar (see PV Tender For Uzbekistan Under Scaling Solar).
