  • Flanders has concluded its 1st green electricity call for 2022, awarding 57.2 MW solar PV capacity
  • A total of 182 winning projects will be awarded a subsidy amount of €4.9 million
  • Tariffs were capped at €0.22 per kWh but the lowest winning bid was locked in at €0.03 per kWh

The Flemish Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA) in Belgium has selected 57.2 MW solar PV capacity to receive a subsidy amount of €4.9 million. The solar projects were selected under the 1st green electricity call of 2022.

Under the Flemish government’s investment support program for medium sized solar PV and wind turbine installations, VEKA is obliged to hold green electricity auctions thrice in a year labeled Green Power Calls, further divided as subcall 1 and 2 for solar+wind and only for solar PV, respectively.

For the recently held auction under Call 1 subcall 2 for this year, held between March 1 2022 to March 15, 2022, a total of 182 solar projects were selected out of 302 applications submitted. While the tariffs were capped at €0.22 per kWh, winning bids ranged between €0.03 to €0.06 per kWh. Weighted average winning bid was determined as €0.0507 per kWh.

Details of the auction concluded are available on VEKA’s website.

As per VEKA, it will schedule Call 2 for the year 2022 between June 14, 2022 to June 28, 2022. The 3rd call is to be held between October 13, 2022 to October 2027, after concluding Call 2.

Back in July 2021, VEKA concluded the 1st green electricity auction in Flanders selecting 79 green projects with solar PV accounting for 59 (see Europe PV News Snippets: Flanders, ZEZ, EDPR, Voltalia).

A November 2021 research from EnergyVille calculates Belgium’s technical rooftop solar potential as 99.6 GW, led by Flanders that can account for 65 GW alone (see 99.6 GW Rooftop Solar Potential For Belgium).
