  • SEA has launched 2 solar PV tenders in Bahrain with a combined capacity of 7.5 MW AC
  • One of the tenders is for 2.5 MW AC grid connected capacity on behalf of Ministry of Labour and Social Development
  • Other 5 MW AC tender capacity has been issued for the Ministry of Education
  • Winners need to set up the capacity at respective ministry properties on BOOM basis under 20-year contracts

The Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) of Bahrain is looking for EPC contractors to develop 7.5 MW AC solar PV capacity in the form of 2 separate facilities on a build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) basis for government buildings.

Of the total capacity sought, 2.5 MW AC grid-tied solar PV plant is to be built for the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, and 5 MW AC capacity for the Ministry of Education. The SEA has launched the tenders on behalf of both the ministries.

All of this capacity will be deployed on rooftops and carparks as well as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations under a 20-year contract each.

Last date for interested bidders to submit their applications to this request for proposal (RFP) round is December 22, 2021 and the same will be opened on December 23, 2021.

In May 2021, SEA launched a solar tender for a minimum of 3 MW AC grid-tied PV capacity on behalf of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) (see Bahrain Launches 3 MW AC Solar Power Project Tender).

Solar, wind and waste-to-energy technologies form the bedrock of Bahrain’s 255 MW renewable energy capacity target to be achieved by 2025, scaled up to 700 MW by 2035, under kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Action Plan.
