At the recently concluded Intersolar Europe 2024, Huawei displayed its PV+ESS FusionSolar calling it a solution for the current global challenge of increasing grid integration of renewables and building a new power system with 100% renewable energy (RE) integration and application. The company touts the latest system as a cutting-edge all-scenario solution for utility-scale, energy storage system (ESS), commercial & industrial (C&I), and residential scenarios.

Smart utility scale RE generation

Huawei’s utility-scale PV+ESS FusionSolar solution offers smart RE generation in combination with PV system, ESS, load, grid, and intelligent power management system to drive the PV generation from the grid, post-grid-forming. The company explains that its latest PV+ESS system connected with a weak grid system, works on the principle of redefined system voltage, frequency, and power angle, leading to higher RE generation in a fully integrated stable power system.

Huawei claimed its latest solution is tested in all types of power grid environments, which can be substantiated by its Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia. It is a large microgrid, running stably and supplying 100% RE based on PV+ESS synergy to a new city for over 8 months.

Smart utility ESS system

The company’s existing smart ESS system is upgraded with the new Cell-to-Grid Smart String & Grid-Forming ESS Platform with improved capabilities – safety, grid forming, intelligence, and efficiency. The platform consists of the Smart String ESS, Smart String PCS, Smart Transformer Station, Smart Array Controller, Smart Power Plant Controller, and Smart Energy Management System with multiple key features.

Its smart intelligent technology allows flexibility in the capacity addition of lithium-iron-phosphate cells and adjusts with any C-rate in tune with different application scenarios, ensuring full lifecycle cost-effectiveness, it added. The company also shares that its latest platform is designed with integrated safety features from individual cells to grid connection and can create a stable and reliable grid under various scenarios. Huawei substantiated its new platform’s worthiness by claiming its Smart String & Grid-Forming ESS can boost RE output by 40% for a project with a short circuit ratio (SCR) of 1.5 in Qinghai, China.

C&I scale solution

Huawei has upgraded its C&I Smart PV solution to FusionSolar OASIS Solution for the C&I segment. FusionSolar OASIS Solution comprises optimizers, inverters, ESSs, and EV chargers. To ensure a smooth incident-free operation of the OASIS solution, the company has linked the SUN5000 series PV solution’s RSD to AFCI to secure both property and personnel safety, shared Huawei.

Residential FusionSolar solution

For optimal home energy management , Huawei has upgraded its FusionSolar residential product. This one-size-fits-all solution includes optimizers, inverters, ESS, chargers, SmartGuard, EMMA, management systems, and apps. According to the company, the brand-new FusionSolar residential solution offers efficient power generation, long-lasting energy storage, whole home backup, intelligent management, and active safety.
