  • The Chilean company will source 108 GWh of clean energy under the arrangement to cover 40% of its electricity needs

Spanish energy company Acciona has secured Chilean telecom operator Movistar Chile as the procurer for 100% renewable energy from 684 MW of its operational solar and wind power projects in Chile under a long term power purchase agreement (PPA).

With this PPA, Movistar Chile will be able to cover 40% of its power needs, and lower its annual CO2 emissions by 42,400 tons. Total energy supply under the agreement will add up to 108 GWh annually.

“Acciona has been investing heavily in Chile, reaching investments of close to US$1.2 billion, with the aim of building a portfolio of exclusively renewable projects that guarantee our clients a 100% clean electricity supply,” said Acciona Energy Management Head Lionel Roa.

Previously, Acciona signed up another telecommunications firm Telefonica in Spain for 100 GWh in Spain (see Acciona Bags RE Supply Contracts In Spain).

In February 2020, Acciona announced entering its 7th corporate renewable energy PPA in Chile for wind and solar power with salt producer and retailer K+S (see Acciona Laps Up RE Supply Contract With Chilean Firm).
