  • Amazon has announced signing up as the corporate offtaker for its 1st renewable energy project in Queensland, Australia
  • The 125 MW Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan is expected to generate enough clean energy to power over 60,000 homes/year
  • This capacity is part of the larger Wandoan South Project with 650 MW solar and 450 MW storage capacity

The world's largest corporate renewable energy procurer Amazon has turned offtaker for a 125 MW solar power plant in Australia that has now been commissioned by Singapore-based Vena Energy. This is Amazon's maiden renewable energy project in Queensland.

The Amazon Solar Project Australia—Wandoan is located in the Woleebee region of Queensland. It is equipped with more than 250,000 solar PV panels and is expected to generate enough clean energy to power over 60,000 homes/year.

Owned and operated by Vena Energy, it is part of the Wandoan South Project with 650 MW solar and 450 MW battery energy storage capacity. On completion, the entire capacity is estimated to generate more than 1,000 GWh of clean energy annually for the Western Downs Region.

For Amazon, this is its 7th renewable energy project in Australia that it says will power its local operations, including Amazon data centers, and fulfillment centers. The list includes 2 operational solar farms in Suntop and Gunnedah in New South Wales and 3 rooftop PV plants on its facilities in Melbourne and Sydney, apart from wind energy facilities.

All of these put together will generate over 1,000 GWh annually once online, contributing to the group's target of powering its operations globally with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
