  • Karpat Solar will procure a 100 MW solar module production line in Romania from Mondragon Assembly
  • The Spanish company will supply the equipment with complete operations planned for summer 2021
  • It is expected to roll out 100 MW of modules annually, initially for the local market, but later for the larger EU market

Romanian solar company Karpat Solar has placed an order for a 100 MW solar PV module production line to be set up at its Transylvania facility in an attempt to become the '1st' module manufacturer in the country.

Automated assembly equipment supplier from Spain, Mondragon Assembly will supply this line for Karpat Solar to enable the latter to produce 100 MW modules per year as part of phase I of a large scale project that's planned to initially manufacture 'high efficiency' modules for the local market, with eyes on the larger market of the European Union (EU).

It is scheduled to become fully operational before summer 2021 to be ready for the Romanian market in autumn 2021 under phase I, said Karpat Solar CEO Csomore Karoly.

Without sharing too many details about the kind of solar PV modules its line will produce, Mondragon Assembly's International Sales Manager Igor Herrarte said, "In 2021 we will see how several module manufacturing projects materialise in Europe. They will be projects of a different nature, both in size and in manufactured product. We also expect technological diversification. In addition to the standard modules, we will see companies launching modules for HJT, BIPV and other niche products suited to European demand, where Mondragon Assembly has the solution to all those new technologies."

Of late several large scale solar power projects are being planned in Romania, including a 700 MW facility reported by local media being planned by an unidentified investor (see 700 MW Solar Power Plant Being Planned In Romania).
