Solgas Energy Private Limited, a Zimbabwean registered company whose core business is into providing full range of services and solutions for establishing renewable energy systems, announced that it has successfully connected to grid its flagship project – Cross Mabale 5 MW solar plant.

Despite suffering from acute energy shortage and severe brunt of climate change, Africa strives to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 and the global goal of providing affordable, sustainable clean energy services by 2030, and for this solar power will have a critical role to play.

In such a scenario, this 5 MW solar power plant may come across as a small project but for Zimbabwe, the commissioning of this project is a significant landmark in its journey towards the deployment of renewable energy solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of Solgas Energy, Kingston GL Kamba said, "The 5 MW capacity may seem small compared to other projects in the region and around the world. However, a journey of a 1,000 km begins with a single step. I think in the context of our country and the journey this young republic is making, it speaks volumes about our potential and what we can achieve if we work together."

Kamba added, "The power plant is now feeding clean renewable energy to the country and becomes the biggest grid connected solar power plant in Zimbabwe and only the third to be connected.".

Located in Hwange, Northern Matabeleland Province, the plant is spread across 100 hectares of land. The solar system with an output of 5 MW is only the first phase of a project that is all set to achieve an installed output of 50 MW at the same location.
