Trina Solar of China has announced it will build a high efficiency solar cell production line with 8 GW annual capacity in Suqian Economic and Technological Development Zone in Suqian city of Jiangsu province.

In a stock exchange filing dated late December 2020 to report project investment agreement with the Zone Management Committee, it said the company will invest RMB 4.35 billion ($673 million) to build the project through its subsidiary Trina Solar (Suqian) Photoelectric Co., Ltd.

Trina Solar said the production line in Suqian will produce large silicon wafer based high efficiency solar cells, but did not share construction timeline details. The company has been keen to promote and expand its 210mm wafer sized based solar cell capacity.

This capacity expansion project, the company explained, will enable it to further strengthen its position in the high efficiency large size solar cell space and is in line with its long term planning.

Recently TaiyangNews reported about Trina Solar's plans to invest RMB 3 billion to add 8.5 GW solar cell production capacity in Yancheng to support its 210mm based Vertex product line expansion as it aims to have 21 GW of out 50 GW targeted solar module production capacity by the end of 2021.
