  • 5B has announced it will acquire IXL Solar, a solar mounting systems manufacturer for large scale projects
  • The acquisition will enable 5B to scale up its prefabricated solar array systems technology
  • It will also add to the company's efforts to deploy solar power at a massive scale, including for Sun Cable's AAPL project

Solar PV technology company 5B from Australia has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of IXL Solar, a solar mounting systems manufacturer for large scale solar power plants. The two haven been partnering since 2018.

This step not only adds IXL Solar's fab in Adelaide to 5B's business operations, the company said, it also strengthens its ability to deploy solar power at a massive scale, including for the deployment of Sun Cable's Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPL) project for which the company is the manufacturing partner (see Australia's 5B Tech Partner For 10 GW Solar Project).

5B added that IXL Solar will help it optimize the design and industrialization of the company's prefabricated and rapidly deployable solar solution Maverick.

"The world needs massive scale, ultra low cost solar power, fast, and we are constantly seeking ways to accelerate the growth of our team and scaling of our 5B Maverick solar deployment platform," said 5B Co-Founder aand CEO Chris McGrath.

Though 5B has installed over 32 MW capacity since its inception in 2017, it is shipping across the globe now including to the US, Latin America and Latin America. Association with Sub Cable's AAPL that has now swelled to as much as 20 GW capacity brought it to prominence. Sun Cable also sought approval for a solar array manufacturing assembly facility for 5B's Maverick solar array systems in Northern Territory (see Solar Array Manufacturing Assembly Proposed For Darwin).
