US based solar tracker company Nextracker has been picked by Atlas Renewable Energy to provide its advanced software and data analytics platform for 902 MW Vista Alegre Solar Power Plant in Brazil, tipped to become the 'largest' solar project to be built in the Southern Hemisphere.

Nextracker will supply its TrueCapture technology for this contract that comes with an advanced algorithm-based software solution. It uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to track the position of the sun and accordingly adjust angles of solar panels to maximize energy yield, says the company.

The Vista Alegre project is contracted to sell electricity produced to aluminum producer Albras under what Atlas terms as the 'largest and longest' power purchase agreement (PPA) ever signed with a corporate offtaker in Latin America (see Atlas Bags Solar Agreement For 902 MW In Brazil).

It is scheduled to come online in 2025 when it will generate close to 2 TWh annually.

Nextracker sees this contract as extending its market position in Latin America.

"With Atlas Renewable Energy, we're focused on bringing greater power plant optimization to utility-scale projects in the region," said Nextracker's Head of Sales for Latin America, Alejo Lopez. "We share the same goals, focused on delivering high performing systems and lower cost to our customers."

Nextracker and its TrueCapture technology appears in TaiyangNews 2nd Market Survey on Solar Trackers, released in December 2022. The survey can be downloaded for free here.
