BTI: India’s Rooftop PV Capacity Exceeds 6.8 GW

India's cumulative installed rooftop solar PV capacity was calculated to reach 6,792 MW by the end of  2020 by market intelligence firm Bridge to India (BTI). With 2020 additions of 1,352 MW, this reflects an annual drop of 13.5%, mainly blamed on COVID-19 related disruptions.

The infographic report India Solar Rooftop Map December 2020 by BTI shows most capacity of the aggregate is installed by the industrial segment with over 3.5 GW, followed by the commercial segment with 1.33 GW, the residential segment claiming 1.1 GW and the public sector with 843 MW capacity. Among states, Maharashtra stands on top with the highest amount of rooftop solar capacity installed till December 2020 with 958 MW, followed by 556 MW in Rajasthan and 537 MW in Tamil Nadu.

The capex model remains the most popular business model, while the opex model continues to decline in popularity.

According to the analysts, Fourth Partner Energy claims the largest market share of 19.09% among project developers with highest capacity installed, while Growatt was the top inverter supplier in 2020 claiming a market share of 17.76%. Among EPC contractors in this space, Tata Power with 7.82% share maintained its top slot on the list as last year.
