Centrica Business Solutions, an electricity and gas supplier from the UK, has entered a framework agreement with renewable energy developer Push Energy to deliver 900 MW of solar and battery energy storage capacity by 2026 in the UK.
All the assets will be large scale solar farms and will see Centrica in the partnership acting through Centrica Energy Assets that's formed to develop large scale, grid connected solar and energy storage projects in the UK and Europe.
Centrica Energy will work with Push Energy right from site identification to commercial operation of the capacity, while the latter will pitch in as turnkey EPC contractor under the partnership.
"This is an important relationship and a big step towards our aim to develop, build, manage and optimize a 900 MW portfolio of Centrica-owned solar and battery projects, that will help provide our customers with clean energy," said Centrica Energy Director Bill Rees.
Centrica says it aims to go net zero by 2045 and for its customers by 2050 by reducing carbon content in its energy supply.
Solar PV market of the UK is set to get a push with the government announcing its Energy Strategy under which solar PV capacity of the country may grow to 70 GW by 2035 (see Britain Releases New Energy Security Strategy).
