  • CubicPV has secured a long-term polysilicon supply contract with OCIM
  • The $1 billion deal will have OCIM provide its low-carbon, fully traceable silicon
  • CubicPV plans to use it for its 10 GW US factory once the supply starts from 2025

US solar wafer manufacturer CubicPV has locked in non-Chinese polysilicon supply under an 8-year contract signed with a subsidiary of South Korean producer OCI Holdings' Malaysia-based subsidiary OCIM Sdn Bhd.

The contract, valued at approximately $1 billion, binds OCIM to supply high-quality, low-carbon, fully traceable and US-compliant silicon to CubicPV on an annual basis for the latter's planned wafer factory coming up in the US with 10 GW annual capacity (see US Solar Wafer Fab Plans Move Forward).

The delivery will begin in 2025 from OCIM's hydroelectricity-powered Malaysia factory. The latter operates a 35,000 MT fab in Malaysia's Samalaju Industrial Park in Sarawak.

Both the companies did not reveal the annual capacity agreed upon, but CubicPV said it has produced significant wafer volumes using OCIM silicon over the last 6 months as part of its equipment validation and testing at the fab location. The final product has met or exceeds customer specifications, it added.

"OCIM's high-quality, US compliant silicon is in extremely high demand, and we are fortunate to lock-in our supply with a trusted partner," said CubicPV CEO Frank van Mierlo.
