  • EE North America and Elio Energy have signed an agreement to co-develop 2 GW solar and storage projects
  • They plan to build it gradually between 2023 and 2025 in Arizona and neighboring states
  • Elio Energy believes this partnership will speed up the execution of large-scale projects and support renewable procurement goals of IOUs and cooperatives

Danish renewable energy developer European Energy's North American subsidiary has entered a partnership with Elio Energy to co-develop 2 GW of solar power generation and energy storage capacity in Arizona and neighboring states in the US.

Construction on these facilities is expected to start gradually between 2023 and 2025.

While the partners do not identify any specific projects under the partnership, one can assume these may be contributed by Elio Energy that counts its active development pipeline across the Southern US as adding up to over 2.5 GW solar and battery storage projects.

The greenfield utility scale renewable energy project developer also boasts of a 6 GW pre-development pipeline.

"The partnership with European Energy will accelerate the development of large-scale solar and storage projects in Arizona and surrounding states by providing the requisite financial security while supporting the renewable procurement goals of the investor-owned utilities (IOU) and Cooperatives," said Elio Energy's CEO Daven Mehta.

EE North America on the other hand, invests in solar, wind and Power-to-X projects globally and aims to develop 10 GW renewable energy capacity globally by 2026. It entered the North American market in October 2022 and is based out of Texas (see European Energy Launches New US Renewables Subsidiary).
