  • Ferrai plans to create a renewable energy community with a 1 MW solar power plant next to its Fiorano Circuit
  • Enel X will install the project using bifacial solar panels of 550W each and single axis trackers
  • It will be open to all public and private entities to partake from 1,500 MWh power the plant is expected to generate on completion in December 2023

Luxury sports car maker from Italy, Ferrari has engaged the services of Enel X for a solar plant with approximately 1 MW capacity to be installed adjacent to its Fiorano Circuit. It will be built on disused land, power from which will be offered to the local community in the Italian towns of Fiorano and Maranello.

Enel X will install the solar plant on 10,000 m2 land using single-axis trackers and 1,818 'ultra high performance' bifacial solar panels of 550W each. Scheduled to come online by December 2023, the project will generate around 1,500 MWh annually for 20 years.

Calling the Ferrari Energy Community the 1st ever renewable energy community (REC) in Italy to be promoted and supported by an industrial company for the benefit of its local territory, Ferrai said it will be open to any public or private entity in the towns to become a member.

Citizens, institutions, commercial entities and factories will be able to use renewable energy from the plant and can also become prosumers by installing additional PV systems on their own roofs.

"The Ferrari Energy Community is a concrete example of the possible synergy between an industry and the community in which it operates, and a model that can bring important benefits to the Italian energy system," said Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna.

Ferrari has previously also installed a 450 kW PV and 1 MW fuel cell plant in Maranello which will be expanded with another 2 MW in 2023 as part of its efforts to become carbon neutral by 2030.
