  • GP JOULE and Airbus sign a PPA to construct 3.5 MW solar park that will produce 3.85 GW hours of electricity a year for Airbus

  • GP JOULE to install almost 8,000 modules from Trina Solar in the facility
  • Spread across 4.6 hectares, the installation is expected to begin early 2022

Integrated energy solutions provider GP JOULE and Airbus, which is a part of aerospace and defence group Airbus (EPA:AIR), have signed a Purchase Power Agreement.

As per the agreement, GP JOULE will construct a 3.5 MW solar park in Donauwörth Tapfheim, Germany, which will produce 3.85 GW hours of electricity a year for Airbus. Donauwörth is where Airbus Helicopters manufactures helicopters and aircraft doors.

GP JOULE will install almost 8,000 modules from Trina Solar in this facility and a six-kilometer direct line will connect the solar park with the Airbus medium-voltage network. The electricity will be transported to the factory premises via this direct line.

GP JOULE is responsible for building the facility and also for technical and commercial management. Spread across 4.6 hectares, the installation is expected to begin early 2022.

The agreement ensures long-term stable, affordable electricity prices for Airbus, along with reduced CO2 emissions, thus strengthening the company's hold in Donauwörth.

On the occasion, Co-founder and CTO of the GP-JOULE group of companies Heinrich Gärtner said, "The project marks a turning point. Regionally generated electricity from solar and wind turbines is already cheaper for many companies than the electricity supplied by their suppliers. A long-term direct supply contract enables the plant operator to produce cheaply and secures the energy customers urgently needed energy for a long time at low costs."
