Indian solar module maker Gautam Solar is expanding its annual production capacity to 1 GW after it signed a contract with China's Jinchen Corp for a 500 MW high efficiency automatic manufacturing line comprising n-type TOPCon solar technology.
Touted to produce higher efficiency solar modules, TOPCon is now increasingly becoming the cell technology of choice globally and India too is following suit.
Gautam Solar says n-type TOPCon cells can help produce up to 30% more power than conventionally used p-type PERC cells.
"We are pleased to sign this deal for expanding our solar module manufacturing capacity to 1 GW and to manufacture the high-efficiency N-Type TOPCon Solar Modules, keeping in mind the growing market for Solar Modules, not only in India but globally as well," said Gautam Solar CEO Gautam Mohanka. "With our collaboration with one of the global leaders in the field we will certainly bolster our presence in the solar manufacturing space and contribute significantly towards the country's ambitious goal to become self-reliant by enhancing domestic production."
It is expected to be installed and become operational by September 2023. Signed at the recently concluded SNEC event in China, the deal expands the Indian manufacturer's total production by 500 MW which it operates at its 4 factories in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
