  • Meta Platforms will purchase power from a 150 MW floating solar power plant in Singapore

  • It will be built, owned and operated by a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries on the Kranji Reservoir

  • The project, expected to begin construction in H1 2027, supports Meta’s 100% renewable energy goal

Global technology major Meta Platforms has turned offtaker of solar power from a floating solar power plant in Singapore with approximately 150 MW installed capacity.

The project will support Meta’s local operations with renewable energy, including its data center in Singapore.

Sembcorp Industries says its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Solar Singapore Pte Ltd has signed a 25-year Renewable Energy Purchase Agreement (REPA) with Malkoha Pte Ltd. The latter is a subsidiary of Meta.

It entails that Sembcorp will build, own and operate the floating solar project on the Kranji Reservoir. Construction of the facility is expected to commence in H1 2027. Sembcorp does not share any more details in the statement released by the company.

The Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore had been exploring the possibility of a floating solar plant on the Kranji Reservoir since 2018, estimating it to support 100 MW capacity (see 100 MW Floating PV Project Tender In Singapore).

Meta, meanwhile, continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio across the globe to meet its target of matching its operations with 100% clean and renewable energy (see Meta Signs Up For 505 MW DC Solar Power Plant In Texas).
