Meyer Burger Technology Ltd., has roped in several unidentified wafer suppliers to provide their products for its soon to be launched high efficiency solar cells and modules. It revealed that all wafers to be supplied under the contracts concluded, will ensure use of polysilicon made by European manufacturer Wacker Chemie.
Management explained that its patent protected technology allows the use of 'particularly thin wafers', which can 'only' be produced using high quality polysilicon.
"By disclosing the supply chain, we underline our high standards for the sustainability of our products," said Meyer Burger CEO Gunter Erfurt. "We not only want to produce the best solar modules, but also the cleanest." He added, "Our goal is to source as many components of our product as possible in Europe."
Recently it signed up BayWa's subsidiary Solarmarkt as the Switzerland based distributor of its modules.
To start with, Meyer Burger will have 400 MW of solar cells and 400 MW solar module annual production capacity planned to come online in Q2/2021, and plans to scale it up to 5 GW each of solar cells and modules by 2026.
The Swiss company is set to unveil its high efficiency solar modules produced on German land, in an online ceremony on April 27, 2021 using its own proprietary equipment (see Meyer Burger To Launch New Modules On April 27, 2021).
Industry wide focus on local European solar manufacturing is bringing in new players as well.
