  • ReNew Energy is expanding beyond cells and modules with a planned 6 GW ingot-wafer facility in Andhra Pradesh

  • New investments form part of its INR 600 billion worth of MoUs covering hybrid renewables, green ammonia, and pumped hydro in the state

  • With this, it says the company’s total commitments in Andhra Pradesh rise to INR 820 billion, aligning with the state’s clean energy targets

ReNew Energy Global Plc has outlined new plans to expand its solar manufacturing footprint, announcing a 6 GW ingot-wafer plant in Andhra Pradesh. The move takes the company further into vertical integration beyond cells and modules.

The company currently operates 6.4 GW of solar module and 2.5 GW of cell production capacity in Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur. It is also building a 4 GW TOPCon cell factory in Gujarat’s Dholera (see ReNew Improves H1 FY26 Revenues; Bags ADB Financing For Hybrid Project).

The company recently signed 4 memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board to invest about INR 600 billion to develop clean energy projects. Apart from the 6 GW ingot-wafer plant, ReNew has also expressed interest in developing 5 GW of hybrid renewable energy projects, a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility, and a 2 GW pumped hydro project.

Presently, its total clean energy portfolio stands at around 18.5 GW and 1.1 GWh of battery storage capacity on a gross basis.

ReNew said this package of investments, worth INR 600 billion, is aimed at supporting India’s clean energy goals while boosting local manufacturing capabilities and long-duration storage.

“ReNew has a long-standing presence in Andhra Pradesh and with this expansion we are bringing a fully integrated clean energy value chain to the state of Andhra Pradesh, from wafer to large-scale renewable projects and storage deployment. This will strengthen domestic supply chains, create high-quality skilled jobs, and advance India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision,” said ReNew Energy’s Founder, Chairman and CEO, Sumant Sinha.

With these MoUs, ReNew has now raised its total recent commitments in Andhra Pradesh to roughly INR 820 billion, including INR 220 billion announced in May 2025 for a 2.8 GW wind (1 GW) and solar (1.8 GW) project, along with 2 GWh of battery storage, in Anantapur. It will be one of the largest renewable energy projects at a single location in India on completion, stated the company.

For Andhra Pradesh, this investment is aligned with its plans to generate 78.5 GW of solar, 35 GW of wind, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage capacity as part of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024. The state also aims to establish a 20 GW solar PV manufacturing ecosystem in the state, across the value chain – from mine/polysilicon to modules.
