  • SDN will add 1 GW new solar production capacity to its existing Gwangju site in South Korea by 2025
  • It will comprise the development of 2 lines of 500 MW each, to produce TOPCon and tandem solar technology
  • The company further plans to expand production capacity to host H4 Project and has already secured factory site at Gwangju

South Korean solar module producer SDN will expand its current annual production capacity at Gwangju plant in the country with 1 GW combined capacity of TOPCon and tandem module lines in 2 phases by 2025, but did not identify the tandem combination.

Through this H3 Project expansion, SDN will invest about KRW 9 billion by 2023 to get the factory ready and then install 2×500 MW production lines by 2025. The new project is spread across 3 floors above ground (8,497㎡) on the site of the Gwangju plant. It also aims to build a production and research base that combines solar power plants and data centers.

Currently, the company is operating 2 lines (H1 and H2) at Gwangju location producing glass-to-glass modules with an output varying between 550W to 600W.

Going forward, it has secured a factory site in the industrial complex to host H4 Project and aims to operate its production activities with solar power. "

In September 2021, SDN said it plans to develop a high-tech solar module fab in Gwangju with an annual capacity of 385 MW (see 385 MW Solar Module Fab In South Korea).

Earlier this year, SDN launched its 550W high efficiency bifacial solar module called Sunday 10 with 21.28% efficiency.
