US headquartered solar module producer Seraphim Energy Group (SEG) Solar has scaled up its Cambodia based production capacity to 500 MW annually. From this facility, the producer said it will cater to the growing market demand of North America.
The increased capacity will roll out the company's 540W solar modules based on 182mm technology for which it deploys half-cell modules with passivated emitter rear cell (PERC), and multi busbar (MBB) elements. Bifacial solar modules also form part of the expansion. SEG said since the launch of its 182mm large cell modules in 2020, more than 1 GW capacity has been deployed globally.
SEG said production will come online in October 2021 with scheduled arrival of these modules to the US shored in Q4/2021.
Regarding expansion in Cambodia, SEG Solar said it expects production here will lead to reduced balance of system (BOS) costs, tax and shipping costs thereby saving $0.01 cent to $0.02 cent per W cost at the system level.
The California headquartered company targets to ship more than 2 GW annually by the end of 2023. According to the company's website, it has a module capacity of 750 MW annually at its Vietnam fab that came online in 2019, also supplying to the North American market.
"The expansion of the production facility in Cambodia is just one of many ways that SEG is currently working to obtain stable and high-quality overseas supply solutions to reduce risks and better serve its customers," stated the management under CEO Jim Wood.
